The Challenge of Deliverability and Sender Reputation
Deliverability and your reputation as a sender are important elements of an email strategy.
Deliverability: the percentage of your emails that reach the inbox of your recipients
Reputation: metrics applied to your account like bounce rate and complaint rate, issues here can significantly damage message deliverability
The Virtual Deliverability Manager focuses on these two components by providing you with a Dashboard for easy monitoring and an Advisor for problem-solving your infrastructure.
First look at the Virtual Deliverability Manager
To start, enable the Virtual Deliverability Manager in the onboarding wizard of your Amazon SES Management console.
Access the dashboard that provides high-level and detailed views of your email program across your account. This helps you quickly identify problematic areas and trends before they escalate into larger issues.
Use the Advisor which flags configuration issues impacting deliverability and reputation, such as missing or misconfigured SPF, DKIM, DKIM key strength, DMARC. It also provides specific guidance to resolve them.
Engagement tracking and optimized delivery? Enabled by default!
Monitor recipient behavior through open and click events by inserting a tracking pixel into your emails and wrapping links with Amazon SES engagement tracking wrappers. When triggered, the tracking pixel provides a timestamp of when a message was opened, and indicates which links were clicked.
Optimized shared delivery will automatically choose the optimal IP when sending emails, however this will not work for dedicated IP addresses. Also note that this setting might delay sending your emails. If your messages are time critical, you should disable this option.
Conclusion
Amazon SES already provides a good foundation for your email needs, and the Virtual Deliverability Manager acts as an additional layer to make sure your emails reach their intended audience and your account maintains a positive reputation. If used wisely, this will help you to get higher engagement and conversion rates.
